Manchester City was banned from European competitions for two seasons by UEFA for “serious breaches” of spending rules and failing to cooperate with investigators.
Not many people including Pep Guardiola really believed this could happen and yet it did. The consequences could however be much higher than just the 2 years ban.
Imagine you are a young player with high potential. Would you want to slow down your career by not being able to anticipate in the European football competitions for the whole 2 years? We expect City will have problems to signing up new players in the next 2 seasons.
Pep Guardiola’s contract is over by the end of this season and many experts would be surprised if he will extend it. The story will be most likely investigated by [league 8] officials and points abduct and other penalties are likely.
What can happen?
The ban will most likely have a significant effect on the team for the next 5 years. With the low exposure in the media will international popularity of Manchester City go down and so will the team spirit.
The owners from Abu Dhabi will have to pump some extra money to keep the squad in high standart. What the future brings is however still a mystery. The latest news says about further investigation of 2016 onwards and we are afraid City will face further punishment and could be even relegated down 2 or 3 leagues.
